De La Soul Not far now

Hey Team,
only 2 weeks to go,yeah!!! De La Soul will be gracing the stage at the Lake Wanaka Centre on the wednesday the 13th of May and there is one ticket left, if you're still looking, give Glen at Play It Again Wanaka a call 03-443 6015 if you need it.
I can't wait, I still can't belive they are going to be playing in wanaka, reviews of this tour have been great so hopefully they bring the noise. Thought i'd throw up Feel Good inc, the track they featured on from Gorillaz, it's got such a great clip too.

Music - from my town to yours

Well for those that don't know me lets get one thing crystal clear - I am Canadian - and darn proud of it. I hail from Toronto, and while I do love my new digs here in Wanaka (what's not to like?), I love my big city Toronto, my hometown Mississauga, and the wee little village Streetsville where I grew up!

Toronto (let this just encompass Mississauga and Streetsville at this point for arguements sake), is an amazing city. The most multi culturally diverse city in the world now - surpassing London or New York - and offering great food, art, culture, fashion and of course music.

Toronto not only gets the biggest acts but also has been a hot spot for great music - I mean they even discuss the great things happening in the Toronto music scene on the MTV series The City.

Anyway, here is a little gem, The North. Check it out yourself, and you'll get what I'm talking about.

Blatant plug

Well, i must admit this is a blatant plug for my brothers band, Firekites. They have just released a new film clip for their 2nd single autumn story, and i think it's pretty awesome, done in chalk animation, it took 6 months to produce. I've added the clip for their first single - same suburb, different park as well.

More Base OS

Well i figured i could match Amy's post of Big Si in Vail with one from my good mate Ben who managed to stop in Jackson Hole Wyoming on a bit of a world tour and whack a Base sticker right on the boundary sign, nice work Benjo. He followed this up by heading to Europe and renting a high powered Merc to traverse the German Autobahn at 200kmh Nice.

things i'm looking forward to....

as the temps drop there are some things that i am totally looking forward to this winter:

• fireplace at the house keeping me toasty
• excuse to drink baileys hot chocolated whenever i feel like it and not feel guilty
• wearing a nice warm chunky sweater with skinnys' and boots
• soup for lunch - man do i ever love soup in the winter
• snowboarding - but thats a given
• scarves, beanies, and glittens
• and heli-boarding missions

Base going global

about 3 months ago Brent blogged about his time skiing in the states. While he was there, he happened to leave his mark.(well a Base sticker at least)

Fast forward to present day - we have received an image from Big Si from Sportive, home of K2 skis, K2 Snowboards, Ride Snowboards and Smith Optics in NZ

Si caught up with Vail local boy Little Kev (both former Base employees), and did some skiing and happened upon Brent's nicely placed sticker job.

First Snow of the season

It's here already team...winter that is, Wanaka woke to a beautiful wintery mountain scene this morning with snow covering the local mountains including the top 1/3 of Mt Roy as you can see in the photo, taken from the window above my desk. The other pic is from Cardrona this morning, they have 10-15cm of fresh snow on the ground. This should get people excited for the upcoming winter.And so should our big Easter Winter Clearance sale on this weekend with tons of winter gear including boards, skis outerwear and goggles at crazy prices, so if you're in the area get down to the dedicated sale shop on Helwick St next to the Kodak shop.
The long range forecast for winter from the Moon Man( Ken Ring) is for a very cold winter with lots of snow, can't get better then that really can you. I'm so amped for this winter( missed the whole of last winter with a bung knee) i can't wait to go for a slide. I'm sure you feel the same.

Helwick St Gets A Make Over

Well, it'll be good when it's done, but right now it's a bit annoying. Helwick st, of which Base sits right on the corner is getting a makeover with new tiled foot paths, speed bumps, new trees and all new drainage, which is great, as it will look like the lower part of Helwick in the pic. But right now I've got a big digger right out front digging up the road putting in new drainage pipes, so loud. The schedule has them finished by June, lets hope they stick to it. Of course i had to make sure the digger was rocking Base steez. No one is safe from the Base sticker ninja.
But at least the sun is out, it's Friday arvo and a good chunk of new 2010 Boards and Skis have been loaded up onto the site this week, so have a look if you're interested. So I hope you are set for a nice weekend too.
